King Kong – part 1

“King Kong – part 1. ” by Dan LuVisi Coloring, Step 4, (Kong’s Left) Eye Socket So now let’s begin on Kong’s left eye socket, the unfinished one. Here we want to lay down the basic colors, except this time obviously a little darker as it’s not being hit directly by a light source. We’ll start to do the basic paint in, dark blues, greens and a TAD of black in the shadowed areas. The part above his actual eye ball, you will want to draw in your creases with the black. After you have your colors together, roughly smudge it in. Just get those colors all mended together. What I did, to keep my place in the picture was to Clone tool some of the texture on the brow, and start to mark it just so I feel more comfortable with my picture, rather than just blatant colors. Remember to hit your darks and lights, not all dark. The side of the cheek is going to progress from left to right, left being lightest, right going to darkest (our right and left). Once you have what you need we’ll start too clone more texture, with a lower opacity over the smudged in colors and combine them. This process is mostly to achieve somewhat of a texture feel of his skin, rather than having it be smooth or drawing in little scratches and bunches. Remember when you clone the texture (if you do) start with a low opacity, around 30% will do to cover it. After that, set your normal brush to Multiply, a blue-tone and start to faintly go over your darker areas. You’ll want to hit those shadowy areas with the multiply brush; add creases easily with it as shown in. Also on the cut on his eye, not the big pink one, but the thinner one, darken on one side with multiply; highlight the other with a bright blue. It’s mostly common sense if you know your light and darks. This is the same task you can do with the nose scrunch between his eyes. Clone, dark and lights can be achieved easily if painted slowly.
