Making The Sunflower Fountain

“Making The Sunflower Fountain ” by Tjerk Otten
When shooting your own textures you have to stay focused on the sunlight. You don’t need shadows in your texture. You want to simulate that in your 3d program later.

The Texture Reference i shot was taken from 2 Trees in the forest. The Texture of them was amazing. Really promosing. So i took my fujifilm s5500 5 megapixel camera and took 36 shots of every angle of the tree. Because i have all the views of the trees i can make a perfect wrap in photoshop later on. I Unwrapped the mesh in 3dsmax and pasted the painted texture on it together with his displacement map.The Displacement map gives the tree his old and scratchy look. You get the feeling you can peel some parts of the tree off.
Modeling The Interior
The Texture of the interior was made in a neighbourhood with alot of coffeshops around. Its really an amazing thing that i found this house in the middle of a drugs neighbourhood. In a few months, they are gonna take this place down. At least thats what i heard from the man who lived next to it, asking me why i was taking pictures. With texturing. Finding your feeling instead of having it all right there in your head already is also a good thing. Its an artist way of being inspired instead of following the inspiration.

Placing the roots and other elements
One of the coolest things to make in this project were the tenicles. I wanted them to look more like an octopus tenticle than a real life root growing inside. Some people said the roots were too clean and they went from too big to too small in such a short distance. But hey, thats what i wanted. Its gives more strength to the root. Placing the tree inside the house was just a matter of smart placement.
